William J. Heringer, M.D.
William J. Heringer, M.D., a specialist in Internal Medicine, has been providing care to patients in the Santa Ynez Valley since 1982.
Dr. Heringer was born and raised in Kentucky. He graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he played football and rugby. He graduated cum laude with a BA in Psychology in 1971 and was named LMU’s Crimson Circle Man of the Year. He was awarded an MD by the University of Kentucky in 1977. His Internship and Residency were completed at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, an affiliate of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, where he also served as Clinical Instructor. Dr. Heringer was board certified in Internal Medicine in 1981.
Since moving to the Valley, Dr. Heringer has been active in the local medical community by twice serving as Chief of Staff at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital. He was instrumental in establishing the Intensive Care Unit at Santa Ynez Valley Hospital in the early 1980s and served as its Medical Director. Dr. Heringer has also facilitated several physicians in establishing their own practices in the SYV. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara County Chapter of the American Heart Association. Dr. H was the Medical Director of the skilled nursing facility at Atterdag Village in Solvang for more than twenty years. He has been voted Best Doctor in the Santa Ynez Valley News and other local newspaper polls numerous times, has been voted Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital's Physician of the Year and was recognized as one of America's Top Physicians. His professional interests include preventive medicine, heart disease and geriatrics.
Dr. Heringer and his wife, Kathi, have been married since 1981 and have two daughters, Taylor and Brittany. He's an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan, follows the Cincinnati Reds (even though they consistently disappoint!), is a former youth soccer coach for both of his daughters and enjoys playing golf on Saturdays with his buddies and whenever he finds the time. He loves spending time with friends and his family.
